Petrol Remains Unchanged, Diesel Price Hiked by Over Rs. 11
The Government of Pakistan has announced a revision in petroleum prices for the first fortnight of February 2026. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), the price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has seen a significant increase, while the price of Motor Spirit (Petrol) remains unchanged.
The new prices will take effect from February 1, 2026.
The New Price Table
Following the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), here are the revised rates:
| Products | Existing Prices (Rs.) | New Prices (Rs.) | Increase/Decrease (Rs.) |
| High-Speed Diesel (HSD) | 257.08 | 268.38 | +11.30 |
| Motor Spirit (Petrol) | 253.17 | 253.17 | 0.00 |
Why the Hike in Diesel?
The decision to increase the price of High-Speed Diesel by Rs. 11.30 per liter comes amid fluctuations in international oil market prices. While consumers were hoping for relief across the board, the government opted to maintain the status quo for petrol (Motor Spirit) to provide some stability to private commuters and bike riders.
However, the sharp rise in diesel prices is expected to have a trickling effect on the economy. Since HSD is primarily used in heavy transport vehicles, trucks, and agricultural machinery, this hike may lead to an increase in freight charges and the prices of essential food items.
Impact on the Public
For the middle and lower-middle-class households that rely on petrol for motorcycles and small cars, the “no-change” policy on petrol comes as a relief, especially after the price cuts witnessed at the start of the year. On the other hand, the transport sector is likely to react to the diesel hike, which could push up public transport fares in the coming days.
The current price of Rs. 253.17 for petrol and Rs. 268.38 for diesel will remain in place for the next two weeks, until the next review scheduled for mid-February.
