Proton Launches All-New 2026 Saga in Home Market - Carr.pk

Proton has officially launched the new Proton Saga MC3 in Malaysia, the latest version of its famous entry-level sedan. The car was unveiled on 27 November 2025 and is also marketed as the 2026 Proton Saga. It keeps the Saga name but brings a new look, new engine, and much more tech than the old model.

Three variants, starting from RM37,990

For now, the Saga MC3 is sold only in Malaysia in three variants: Standard, Executive, and Premium. Official prices start at RM37,990 (PKR 2,578,723) for the Standard, RM43,990 (PKR 2,985,997) for the Executive, and RM48,990 (PKR 3,325,392) for the Premium, on-the-road without insurance.

New 1.5L engine and more tech

Under the bonnet, the new Saga gets a 1.5-litre i-GT four-cylinder engine with about 118 hp and 150 Nm of torque.

The Standard and Executive use a 4-speed automatic gearbox, while the Premium gets a CVT. The car now sits on Proton’s updated Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA) platform, which brings chassis and structural improvements.

Inside, the MC3 has a much more modern cabin compared to its previous variant. Higher variants get a 7-inch digital meter display and a 9-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, including wireless connection on the upper trims.

Safety and launch package

Safety is also a big step up. The Premium variant comes with a Level 1 ADAS suite that includes features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic alerts, plus six airbags. Lower variants still get stability control and a basic safety kit.

Proton’s Background in Pakistan

There was a time when Proton was also available in Pakistan. The brand entered the market through Al-Haj Automotive, which launched the Proton Saga as an affordable alternative to small hatchbacks.

The Saga offered great value for its price, a 1.3-litre engine, a proper sedan boot, airbags, Android Auto, ESC, traction control, and brake assist, all for roughly the cost of a Suzuki Cultus. On paper, it should have been a strong contender in the budget segment.

However, the brand failed primarily due to Al-Haj’s delivery and support issues. Many customers never received their booked cars due to delays, shortages, and poor after-sales service. As problems grew, Proton’s reputation collapsed, and by 2022, the company stepped away from the Pakistani market.

In Malaysia, however, Proton is a well-reputed brand, and Saga is considered the best value for money. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, due to the local group, the brand couldn’t succeed.
