Maryam Nawaz Announces 31,000 Tractors Delivered, Says Scheme Sets New 25-Year Record - Carr.pk

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that the province has distributed or approved 31,000 tractors under the Green Tractor Scheme, marking what she described as a record expansion in agricultural support.

In a statement shared on social media, Maryam Nawaz said that previous governments provided around 20,000 tractors to farmers over the past 25 years. In comparison, the current Punjab government has delivered or finalized 31,000 tractors under the Green Tractor Scheme within just two years.

Officials confirmed that the total includes three phases. In Phase I, the government distributed 10,000 tractors ranging from 50 to 75 horsepower. Phase II added 11,000 tractors between 75 and 85 horsepower, each carrying a flat subsidy of Rs 1 million. The latest development came this week in February 2026, when authorities completed balloting for 10,000 additional tractors under Phase III.

Phase III focuses on small-scale farmers by offering 50 to 65 horsepower tractors with a subsidy of Rs500,000 per unit. Agriculture department officials said the goal is to improve mechanisation, increase crop productivity, and reduce operational costs for farmers.

The 31,000 tractors under the Green Tractor Scheme represent one of the largest single provincial agricultural support initiatives in recent years. Punjab, which contributes a major share to Pakistan’s crop production, has been pushing mechanisation to strengthen food security and rural incomes.

Government sources say the scheme aims to modernise farming practices, especially for small and medium landholders, and accelerate rural economic growth across the province.
