Punjab Announces Electric Bus Services in 5 More Cities
The Punjab government has decided to expand the electric bus service in Punjab by launching modern, eco-friendly buses in several more cities, aiming to improve urban mobility and provide affordable, clean public transport to residents across the province.
According to an official notification, the new electric bus service will soon be introduced under the provincial government’s ongoing transport reforms.
Cities selected for the next phase include Rajanpur, Gujar Khan, Bahawalpur, Toba Tek Singh, and Rahim Yar Khan. The move is part of Punjab’s broader plan to reduce pollution, ease traffic congestion, and upgrade public transport infrastructure.
Officials say the electric buses will be equipped with modern facilities to ensure passenger comfort and safety. These include air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and special accessibility features for persons with disabilities.
The buses are designed to offer a smoother and quieter travel experience compared to conventional diesel-powered vehicles.
The announcement was shared by the Punjab Transport Company as part of its public transport program, which already operates in major cities of the province.
Authorities believe the expansion will encourage more people to shift from private vehicles to public transport, helping cut fuel costs and carbon emissions.
