Punjab Approves Rs. 50 Billion for Rawalpindi Roads and Transport - Carr.pk

The Punjab govt has approved a Rs. 50 billion Rawalpindi development plan to upgrade major roads and expand public transport across the city.

As a result, the initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve daily travel for residents.

Under this plan, authorities are advancing several major road projects in Rawalpindi, including new flyovers, underpasses, and road widening on key corridors.

At Katchery Chowk, engineers are constructing two flyovers and three underpasses to create a signal-free route toward Chungi 26 Motorway Chowk.

Consequently, the corridor will improve access to Islamabad International Airport and major highways.

Meanwhile, officials have planned three underpasses on Peshawar Road at Race Course Chowk, Qabristan Chowk, and Charing Cross Chowk.

Construction will begin soon and will help ease traffic pressure on one of Rawalpindi’s busiest roads.

In addition, the govt will widen Murree Road by 20 feet on both sides between Liaquat Bagh and Faizabad.

The project also adds new parking plazas and an underpass near the Ninth Avenue flyover to improve traffic flow between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

At the same time, work on the Rawalpindi Ring Road has reached nearly 80 percent completion.

Authorities plan to open the route from GT Road Banth to the Thalian Motorway Interchange by March 2026.

Alongside road upgrades, the govt will expand the Green Electric Bus Service across Rawalpindi.

Under the plan, 87 electric buses will operate on major routes, providing affordable and environmentally friendly transport.

To ensure progress, the Chief Minister’s House will monitor the Rs. 50 billion Rawalpindi development plan daily.
