Punjab’s New E‑Transport Plan to Give Twin Cities a Green Makeover
The Punjab government is launching a new electric bus service between Gujar Khan and T‑Chowk. This will connect the town with the Islamabad‑Rawalpindi corridor starting next month.
The Regional Transport Authority has finalized the route. The buses will run along G.T. Road, stopping at Mandra, to give commuters a reliable, eco-friendly ride to the capital region.
Fifteen e‑buses will start on this route. This is part of Punjab’s broader plan to expand electric bus service in cities.
In Rawalpindi, the fleet will grow from 45 to 80 buses in the coming months. Upgrades at Kutchery Chowk and the addition of six new routes will make this possible. Current e‑bus lines already serve over 26,000 passengers daily, showing strong demand.
In Jhelum, authorities also started 15 new electric buses. They will run on three local routes first, with more added later.
According to the report, Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said improving travel options is a top priority. Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique highlighted the government’s focus on sustainable, affordable mobility for the health, education, and communication sectors.
This project supports Punjab’s green transport goals, cutting emissions and giving people better public transport on key intercity routes.
