Punjab to Roll Out 1,100 Electric Buses across Punjab by Dec 2025
RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has announced that around 1,100 electric buses will be on roads across multiple cities of Punjab by December 2025. Starting with smaller cities, the initiative is now expanding to larger urban cities.
This announcement was made by CM Punjab during the launch of Phase-II of Rawalpindi’s electric bus service.
Rollout Plan: Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock
CM Punjab confirmed that the Rawalpindi Division will receive a total of 145 e-buses under the plan. City-wise distribution is as follows:
- Rawalpindi city: 80 electric buses
- Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock: 15 buses each
As of 19th November, 45 electric buses are operational in Rawalpindi, servicing key intra-city routes.
Features and Fare Structure
The newly launched electric buses are:
- Fully air-conditioned
- Equipped with CCTV cameras
- Designed for zero-emission urban mobility
The set fare is Rs. 20 per ride, while students, senior citizens, women, and persons with disabilities can travel free of cost.
What’s Next?
This initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to modernize Punjab’s public transport infrastructure. If completed as planned, it will be the largest electric bus rollout by any province in Pakistan to date.
