Punjab Launches Motorway Ambulances and Expands Rescue Services - Carr.pk

In a decisive move to improve road safety across the province, the Punjab government has launched a series of initiatives under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Safe Punjab vision, focusing on highways, motorways, and urban road networks.

A cornerstone of the effort is the Motorway Ambulance Service, designed to provide rapid medical assistance to motorists involved in accidents on high-speed roads. Delays in emergency response have long contributed to severe injuries and fatalities on motorways, where every minute counts.

To strengthen emergency readiness, Punjab now operates 892 ambulances, 2304 rescue bikes, 281 fire vehicles, and 74 rescue vehicles across the province. This expanded fleet ensures 24/7 response to road accidents, vehicle fires, and other emergencies, particularly during peak traffic hours and long-distance travel.

Preventive Safety Measures in Action

Beyond emergency response, the government is prioritizing preventive safety. Over 2,200 buildings, including commercial centers and high-footfall areas, have undergone inspections for fire hazards and structural risks. Officials say these measures aim to reduce emergencies before they occur, safeguarding both citizens and property.

Rescue and Fire Services Reach Tehsil Level

Previously, limited access to emergency services in smaller towns and semi-urban areas caused critical delays. To address this, the Punjab government has extended Rescue and Fire Services to the tehsil level, significantly cutting response times and ensuring faster assistance in remote locations.

Road Safety: A Growing Concern

With vehicle numbers rising rapidly, road safety remains a major challenge. Traffic and rescue data indicate that highways and urban roads continue to be high-risk zones due to speeding, poor road discipline, and delayed medical assistance.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance road safety infrastructure, improve emergency response, and reduce accident-related casualties across Punjab. As traffic density increases, the effectiveness of these measures will be closely monitored by motorists, safety experts, and road users alike.
