Punjab Launches New Digital Platform to Stop Fake Vehicle Transfers - Carr.pk

The Punjab govt has launched a new digital platform for vehicle transfer and registration aimed at curbing fraud and dismantling the influence of unscrupulous agents involved in illegal transfers, officials said on Thursday.

The initiative, which integrates the Pak ID mobile application into the vehicle ownership transfer process, is expected to bring transparency and accountability to a system that has long been exploited by middlemen and criminal elements.

Under the new digital framework, vehicle owners will be able to complete transfer procedures online, reducing the need for physical intermediary intervention.

According to government sources, the platform allows owners to generate transfer requests digitally, monitor status updates in real time, and receive official notifications directly on their devices.

This measure is being introduced to prevent cases where vehicles are transferred without the knowledge or consent of the rightful owner — a problem that has seen complaints rise over recent years.

Punjab Excise and Taxation authorities said the digital approach is designed to track and record every stage of the transfer process, making it easier to identify irregularities and prevent misuse of the system by agents who previously operated outside the formal procedures.

Officials also underscored that enhanced integration with the e-Punjab system and Pak ID app will help track the movement of vehicles and automate alerts to owners when transfer actions are initiated. This double-check mechanism is expected to significantly reduce incidents of fake transfers and fraudulent activity in the motor vehicle registry.

In recent months, Punjab authorities have taken complementary steps to strengthen vehicle regulation and enforcement.

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has deployed advanced AI‑driven number‑plate recognition systems to detect fake and tampered plates across the province, generating real‑time alerts for law enforcement and bolstering efforts against vehicle‑related fraud.

The government’s efforts come against a backdrop of concerns over unregistered and misused vehicles on public roads, which authorities say not only undermine revenue collection but also facilitate criminal misuse.

In addition to digital tracking, officials have emphasised the importance of using genuine documentation and penalising those found engaging in unlawful transfer activities.

Sources within the Excise Department said awareness campaigns will be rolled out alongside the new platform to educate vehicle owners on the proper digital procedures and how to safeguard their ownership rights.

Citizens will also be advised on verifying e‑challans and transfer alerts through official channels to avoid phishing or third‑party fraud attempts.
