Punjab Transport Sets Record as 1.4 Million Travel Free in Two Days
Nearly 1.4 million passengers set a new record by traveling on the Orange Line, Metro Bus, feeder buses, electric buses, and other government-run buses over two days.
A special video-link meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb presented a two-day report on Basant. The Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi, Commissioner, Health officials, PHA, police, and security authorities gave detailed briefings.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the arrangements and security measures for Basant.
She stated that today is the last day of the Basant festival and kite flying will be stopped at night.
After the conclusion of the three-day Basant festival, the ban on kite flying will remain in place. She appreciated the cooperation of Lahore’s citizens during the festival.
She urged the public to follow the SOPs and regulations on the final day as well and prove themselves responsible citizens.
The briefing revealed that 299,000 passengers traveled free of charge on the Orange Line Metro Train on Friday and 305,000 on Saturday, bringing the two-day total to over 600,000 passengers.
On the Metro Bus, 143,000 passengers traveled on Friday and 135,000 on Saturday, totaling 278,000 free riders over two days.
On Speedo feeder buses, 174,000 passengers traveled on Friday and 182,000 on Saturday, making a total of 357,000 free passengers.
On electric bus feeder routes, 15,000 passengers traveled on Friday and 15,000 on Saturday, totaling 30,000.
Under the Regional Transport Authority, 30,000 passengers traveled on Friday and 30,000 on Saturday, totaling 60,000 free riders.
On green electric buses, 25,000 passengers traveled on Friday and 27,000 on Saturday, reaching a total of 52,000.
The briefing further stated that 419 buses remain available in Lahore for free public travel on the final day. Free rides are being provided to the public during Basant.
The Orange Line Metro Train is offering free travel until tonight. Metro Bus, feeder buses, and green buses are also providing free travel today. Additionally, 6,000 Yango rickshaws are offering free rides sponsored by the government.

Authorities have been directed to ensure strict implementation of safety measures on the final day. Only kites and strings meeting the prescribed size and standards are allowed to be used on the last day of the festival.
