RDA Starts Massive Urban Upgrade Project On GT Road
The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has officially commenced a comprehensive beautification project along the Grand Trunk (GT) Road.
This initiative, designed to upgrade the urban landscape of one of the city’s busiest transport corridors, aims to provide a more visually appealing and environmentally sustainable experience for daily commuters and residents.
Transforming the DHA and Bahria Town Corridor
The project focuses on the critical stretch of GT Road from DHA Phase-I to Phase-II, specifically the high-traffic area in front of Bahria Town. Following the directives of RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza, the authority has deployed teams to begin work on the ground.
This move aligns with the broader vision of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, to modernize urban infrastructure across the province.
Green Belts and Aesthetic Upgrades
Key features of the beautification drive include extensive plantation and the development of modern green belts to combat urban heat and improve air quality. Beyond greenery, the RDA is introducing aesthetic enhancements such as professional paintwork along the corridor and the installation of decorative water pools.
These additions are expected to elevate the city’s entry points, making them comparable to international urban standards.
Focus on Sustainability and Maintenance
To ensure that the improvements are not short-lived, the RDA has established a dedicated monitoring and maintenance mechanism. DG Kinza Murtaza emphasized that the project is not just about aesthetics but also about functionality and sustainability.
The authority has directed all concerned directorates to maintain strict quality control and ensure the long-term upkeep of the newly developed public spaces.
Impact on Commuters and Real Estate
This development is a welcome change for motorists who frequently navigate the Rawalpindi-Islamabad route. Improved road aesthetics and organized green spaces often contribute to better driver psychology and reduced “road fatigue.” Furthermore, such infrastructure upgrades typically enhance the value of surrounding residential and commercial real estate projects.
