Rs. 820 Million in Fines Issued as Sindh Targets Unfit Vehicles - Carr.pk

The Sindh govt has targeted 56,000 unfit vehicles across the province, issuing fines totaling Rs 820 million.

The announcement came from Senior Minister and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon during the Question Hour in the Sindh Assembly, highlighting major road safety and transport reforms.

Enforcement teams fined vehicles operating without valid or updated fitness certificates, including 30,917 trucks, 13,918 trailers, 6,109 water tankers, 2,935 dumpers, 2,138 oil tankers, and 183 tractors.

Minister Memon said the crackdown ensures stricter compliance with Sindh traffic laws and targets heavy transport carriers that previously bypassed inspections.

The previous manual certification system allowed vehicles from other provinces, especially KP and Balochistan, to avoid local inspections.

The new computerized vehicle fitness system now mandates digital verification, ensuring all vehicles are properly inspected before operating in Sindh.

The govt is also expanding public transport, approving 500 new buses, increasing Green Line BRT ridership from 50,000 to 85,000 daily, integrating the Orange Line with the Green Line, and introducing free shuttle services following terminal relocations.

The EV Scooty scheme for women has seen more than 15,000 applications, a significant rise from just 150 license holders previously.

The Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill is under review by a standing committee and, if passed, will require third-party liability insurance for all vehicles except two-wheelers during registration or ownership transfer.

Additional initiatives include smart traffic management systems, upgraded traffic signals, and clear guidelines for ambulance siren prioritization.
