Sazgar to Begin Local Production of New Vehicles Soon

KARACHI: Sazgar is set to begin local assembly of three models from Great Wall Motors (GWM), the Tank 500, Poer Canon, and Poer Canon Alpha, with the Tank 500 expected to launch in two powertrains: PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), and the Poer Canon series in PHEV.

The locally assembled units of Tank 500 will start rolling out by March 2026, with the Canon series following soon after. This announcement was made by Sazgar’s top executive, Ali Hameed, during PakWheels’ coverage of the Pakistan Auto Parts Show (PAPS) held in Karachi.

Locally Assembled Tank 500 HEV and PHEV Trims

The Tank 500 HEV will be available in a 7-seater configuration, while the PHEV  will be available in a 5-seater configuration. 

Hameed also emphasized that the Poer Canon also comes in diesel versions in China, but these will not be available in Pakistan. He explained that while the diesel version meets Euro 5 standards, Pakistan’s diesel fuel quality is not suitable for the model, so only petrol engine versions will be sold locally. Hameed also said that the Canon is one of the best-selling double-cabin pickup trucks in China. 

Pricing for Locally Assembled Models

Earlier, GWM unveiled the Tank 500 with a HEV powertrain, but it was an imported model priced at Rs. 4.5 crore. However, Hameed stated that the locally assembled Tank 500 will be significantly more affordable, with an expected price tag of under Rs. 2.5 crore. Considering the size and tech features of the Tank 500, 2.5 crore bracket is a competitive segment.

Expansion of Manufacturing Unit

Sazgar is also expanding its manufacturing capabilities to meet the demand for these locally assembled models. Hameed stated that the expansion will be completed within the next two months, further enhancing Sazgar’s production capacity and efficiency.
