Shaheen Chowk Underpass Set for Smooth Islamabad Drives
Islamabad commuters will soon enjoy smoother drives as the Shaheen Chowk Underpass opens to traffic on December 31, 2025. This key infrastructure project targets long-standing congestion at one of the capital’s busiest intersections.
Islamabad’s roads often face heavy traffic, especially at Shaheen Chowk. It is the junction of 9th Avenue and Khayaban-e-Iqbal (Margalla Road). The new Shaheen Chowk Underpass promises signal-free flow, reducing delays and fuel waste.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inspected the site on December 28, 2025, reviewing final carpeting, landscaping, and tree planting for added greenery. He directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to meet the deadline, emphasizing quality.
Project Benefits for Drivers
- Improved traffic flow
- Shorter commutes for time and fuel savings
- Enhanced Aesthetics of landscape boosts the area’s appeal.
Construction advanced rapidly, with structural work complete and finishing touches underway. According to the report, the project originally costed Rs. 1.3 billion and saw scope adjustments for better efficiency, including an extended underpass barrel.
