Sindh Govt Considers Cutting E-Challan Fines by Half - Carr.pk

In a potential relief for motorists, the Sindh government has begun deliberations to reduce e-challan fines by up to 50 percent amid growing public concern over high penalties.

Sources said the proposed plan includes cutting the e-challan fine for motorcycles from Rs5,000 to Rs2,500. Fines for cars with engine capacity up to 1,000cc may also be reduced by half. The move aims to strike a balance between traffic discipline and affordability.

The proposal will be reviewed by a special committee headed by the Sindh interior minister. Officials said the committee will hold its final meeting next week. If approved, the government will issue a formal notification shortly after.

The Sindh government introduced the e-challan system to curb traffic violations, reduce manual enforcement, and improve road safety. However, citizens and transport groups have repeatedly raised concerns over steep fines, especially for low-income riders.

On December 23, the special committee sought detailed recommendations from traffic authorities on revising the penalty structure. Officials said the review also covers enforcement gaps, public awareness, and compliance trends since the system’s rollout.

If implemented, the revised e-challan fines could provide relief to thousands of daily commuters while maintaining the system’s deterrent effect. Authorities say traffic laws will remain strictly enforced even after any reduction.
