Sindh’s Vehicle Theft Crisis: 20,000 Vehicles Stolen or Snatched This Year - Carr.pk

The Sindh Police released their 2025 Annual Crime Statistics report last month, and the numbers tell a worrying story. Road-related crimes increased across the province this year by 14.21% YoY (year-over-year).

The total number of reported cases went from 17,534 in 2024 to 20,025 this year. This means nearly 2,500 more people lost their vehicles to criminals compared to last year.

Here is the breakdown of the road-related cases registered in 2025 with comparison to 2024 :

Case Type 2024 2025 Change
Car Theft 1,202 1,428 18.80%
Car Snatched 197 233 18.27%

Other Motor Vehicle Snatched 159 193 21.38%
Total Cases 17,534 20,025 14.21%

Broken down by category, motorcycle theft remains the most pervasive issue, accounting for over 62% of all reported road crimes. The number of stolen motorcycles rose from 10,739 to 12,519, an increase of 16.58%. But the stealth over gunpoint snatching is increasing.

Regional Breakdown

Sukkur Range

Regionally, the most significant surge occurred in the Sukkur range, jumping by over 116% from 449 cases last year to 970 in 2025. This represents the highest growth rate of any region in the province.

Karachi Range

Karachi, the province’s capital, continued to record the highest volume of incidents in the list. The Karachi range saw a 10.62% increase over last year, with cases rising from 15,241 to 16,860. While the percentage growth is lower than in Sukkur, the sheer number of additional crimes, over 1,600, remains substantial.

Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas Ranges

Other regions also faced sharp increases. Both the Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas ranges saw their road crime figures grow by approximately 54%.

Shaheed Benazirabad and Larkana Ranges

Conversely, the Shaheed Benazirabad (SBA) is the only area to report a positive trend, with the Larkana Range recording the least increase: road crimes declined by 7.23% to 590 cases in the Shaheed Benazirabad range, and only 4.11% in the Larkana range.

See the detailed table for reference:

  LARKANA RANGE S.B.ABAD RANGE

Total 511 532 4.11% 636 590 -7.23%

Lastly, most concerning is that road crime rates in Sindh have not decreased. Furthermore, these numbers likely underrepresent the reality, as they only account for filed FIRs.
