T-Chowk Flyover Project Wraps Up Two Months Early in Islamabad - Carr.pk

The T-Chowk Flyover in Islamabad has been completed two months ahead of schedule. Finished in just 90 days, the project was completed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), surpassing its original February 2026 deadline.

The 1.1-kilometre flyover, located at the busy G.T. Road and Islamabad Expressway intersection, promises smoother commutes for thousands of drivers. It’s expected to reduce congestion significantly, especially during peak hours.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation on September 12, 2025. CDA officials confirmed that only minor finishing touches remain on the flyover, which cost Rs1.4 billion. The accelerated pace of construction was made possible by efficient planning and management.

Expanded Scope Enhances Traffic Flow

The project’s scope grew by 15%, adding an extra lane and more U-turns to improve traffic flow. These changes were made to meet the needs of growing commuter traffic and ensure smoother travel through the intersection.

Despite the increased cost, CDA officials assured the public that the project adhered to all Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) guidelines. A CDA spokesperson said, “The scope adjustments were necessary to meet commuter needs, and we ensured the project stayed within legal limits.”

Shaheen Chowk Underpass: Another Milestone Ahead of Schedule

In another positive development, the Shaheen Chowk underpass project is also ahead of schedule, expected to be completed by the end of 2025, four months before its April 2026 deadline. Like the T-Chowk Flyover, it saw a 15% increase in scope, with additional lanes and improved access points designed to enhance traffic flow.

Easing Congestion, Building for the Future

Both projects are central to Islamabad’s long-term infrastructure strategy, aimed at reducing traffic bottlenecks and improving city access. Experts praise the CDA’s proactive approach, which minimized disruptions during construction and ensured timely completion. These projects promise a smoother future for Islamabad’s road network.
