Top 20 cars in 2025 – Bezza sold over 100k units, Saga in 4th with 71k, Vios/City outsold S70, J7 above CR-V

The latest figures from the Malaysian road transport department (JPJ) have revealed that Perodua has topped the sales chart for 2025 to the tune of 359,905 units sold last year, representing a 0.5% gain over its 2024 figure.

Leading the thrust for the national carmaker is the Bezza with 100,488 units sold in 2025, ahead of its stablemate, the Axia, which saw 84,291 units sold last year. In terms of monthly figures, the Bezza held the lead through most of last year, save for the January 2025 when the Axia was the top seller with 7,096 units sold that month, against 5,106 units of the sedan.

In fact, it is a Perodua podium lock-out for 2025 sales numbers by model, with the Myvi taking third place with 72,724 units sold last year. Perodua takes five out of the top six spots, with the Alza and Ativa taking fifth and sixth with 45,534 units and 38,609 units, respectively.

The Proton Saga takes fourth place in 2025 with 70,903 units sold last year, or slightly under 2,000 units less than the volume achieved by the Perodua Myvi. The Saga, in its latest MC3 iteration was launched on November 27 in three variants.

In the B-segment stakes, the Toyota Vios is the top-selling in its segment and seventh overall with 31,776 units sold in 2025, with its closest rival the Honda City – in both sedan and hatchback forms – taking ninth place with 27,107 units sold last year.

In this segment, the Toyota and Honda models outsold the Proton S70, a C-segment offering that is priced in the B-segment bracket. 17,166 units of the S70 were sold in 2025.

The Jaecoo J7 is the sole Chinese-branded entrant in the top 20 models list of 2025, charting 11,520 registrations last year, which places it ahead of the Honda CR-V that recorded 10,735 registrations last year. Rounding up the top 20 models by volume in Malaysia is the Mitsubishi Xpander, which saw 9,102 registrations.
