Toyota and Lexus Top the List of Longest-Lasting Car Brands - Carr.pk

If you want a car that will hit 250,000 miles, Toyota is your best bet. A new study by iSeeCars, a U.S.-based research firm, analyzed over 174 million vehicles and found that Toyota ranks #1 for longevity.

The data shows that a Toyota has a 17.8% chance of reaching 250,000 miles (402,336 km). That is nearly double the average for the entire car industry.

Not just that, Japanese brands took all the top spots in the list. Lexus, Toyota’s luxury brand, came in second. Honda took third place, and its luxury arm, Acura, came in fourth. In fact, these were the only four brands that scored better than the industry average of 4.8%.

See the table for reference:

Brand % Chance of Lasting 250,000+ Miles Compared to Average
Toyota 17.80% 3.7x
Lexus 12.80% 2.7x
Honda 10.80% 2.3x
Acura 7.20% 1.5x

Cadillac 4.50% 0.9x
Mazda 3.60% 0.7x
Ram 3.50% 0.7x

Non-Luxury Brand Rankings

If we segment down the rankings to non-luxury brands, Japanese brands take the lead here as well. Toyota and Honda are the only two brands that score above average, leaving behind GMC and Chevrolet with a huge margin:

Brand % Chance of Lasting 250,000+ Miles Compared to Average
Toyota 17.80% 3.5x
Honda 10.80% 2.1x
Non-Luxury Average* 5.10%
GMC 4.60% 0.9x
Chevrolet 4.50% 0.9x
Mazda 3.60% 0.7x
Ram 3.50% 0.7x
Ford 3.10% 0.6x
Dodge 2.50% 0.5x
Nissan 2.40% 0.5x
Subaru 2.30% 0.4x

Luxury Brand Rankings

Again, in luxury rankings as well, Japanese brands top the spot, with Lexus (Toyota’s luxury division) on the first spot, Acura (Honda’s luxury division) in the runner-up position, and Mercedes (8th spot) being the only German brand that managed to come in the top 10 list:

Brand % Chance of Lasting 250,000+ Miles Compared to Average
Lexus 12.80% 4.0x
Acura 7.20% 2.3x
Tesla 4.60% 1.4x
Cadillac 4.50% 1.4x
Lincoln 3.40% 1.1x
Luxury Average 3.20%
Volvo 2.20% 0.7x
Infiniti 2.10% 0.7x
Mercedes-Benz 1.70% 0.5x
Buick 0.60% 0.2x
Porsche 0.50% 0.2x

The data suggests that while mechanical durability remains a hallmark of the top-tier Japanese brands, domestic luxury nameplates and electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla (in the 6th position) also demonstrate competitive longevity within their specific category.
