Toyota Raize vs Suzuki Fronx: Which Compact SUV Makes More Sense? - Carr.pk

Earlier, we compared the Suzuki Fronx with its older sibling, the Suzuki Vitara, a model that once represented Suzuki’s presence in the SUV segment before being discontinued in Pakistan. But now, it’s time to look beyond Suzuki’s own family tree and compare the Fronx with another strong contender in the market.

Enter the Toyota Raize, also rebadged as the Daihatsu Rocky; both are the same vehicle, except for some cosmetic changes to the bumpers.

You might wonder: Why compare the Fronx Hybrid with the Toyota Raize?

Well, the answer is simple. The Toyota Raize is one of the most popular Japanese crossover SUVs in the used-car market. If you visit any showroom dealing in imported vehicles, you’ll almost always find at least one Raize parked there; that’s how popular it is

The crossover SUV has earned this popularity for good reasons. It delivers the trademark Toyota reliability and features at a relatively affordable price, starting at around 53-54 lacs. Smaller, 1,000cc engine, lower duties, and hence lower price.

Now, if we look at the Suzuki Fronx Hybrid (mild-hybrid), it falls into the same segment, with nearly identical body size, length, and wheelbase to the Toyota Raize. Both vehicles also produce almost identical power outputs, putting them head-to-head as natural rivals.

So, with all that in mind, this comparison makes complete sense.

For this comparison, we’re looking at the Raize’s mid-spec ‘Z’ variant because that’s the one you’ll find most often on PakWheels’ used-car listings.

And for the Suzuki Fronx, we’re using the international mild-hybrid version since the unit showcased at PAPS had a ‘Hybrid’ badge, which pretty much hints that Pakistan will also get the hybrid trim when it launches.

Here’s a quick 1-1 comparison of both cars:

Raize Z Specification Fronx
3,995 × 1,695 × 1,620 mm Dimensions L × W × H 3,995 × 1,765 × 1,550 mm
2525 mm Wheelbase 2520 mm
200 mm Ground Clearance 170 mm
1.0 L Engine 1.5 L
Turbocharged Powetrain Mild-Hybrid
97 hp & 140 Nm Power & Torque 102 HP & 137 Nm
CVT Transmission 6-Speed Auto
17-inch Rims 16-inch

In the end, how the Fronx will stack up against the Raize will mainly depend on its price. Also, remember, the Fronx will be a brand-new option with official company support and warranty, while the Raize is a used import from Japan with no warranty or official backing.
