Several major motorways in Pakistan have reopened to traffic following improved visibility conditions, although authorities have issued safety warnings for travelers, especially during foggy weather.

Reopened Motorway Sections:

  • Motorway M-4: The section from Faisalabad to Shorkot is now open, providing smoother travel for commuters.

  • Motorway M-2: The stretch from Islamabad to Lahore, as well as the section from Kot Momin to Lillah, has been reopened, ensuring safer travel for drivers.

  • Motorway M-11: The Lahore-Sialkot section, from the Main Toll Plaza to Sembriyal Toll Plaza, is now accessible, improving connections between the two regions.

  • Motorway M-1: The section from Islamabad to Peshawar, along with the segment from Swabi to Rashkai, has reopened following improved visibility.

Key Safety Warnings from Motorway Police:

  • Fog-Related Hazards: The Motorway Police cautioned that fog-related violations, particularly failing to maintain lane discipline, could lead to dangerous accidents.
  • Strict Lane Discipline: Drivers must follow lane discipline strictly, particularly in foggy conditions, to avoid collisions. 
  • Prefer Daytime Travel: It is advised to travel during the day to minimize the risks posed by low visibility, especially in the early morning and late evening.
  • Safe Travel Hours: According to the Motorway Police, the safest travel hours during foggy conditions are from 10 AM to 6 PM.
  • Use of Fog Lights: Drivers are required to use fog lights at all times in foggy conditions to improve visibility and reduce the risk of accidents.
  • Avoid Unnecessary Travel: Authorities recommend avoiding unnecessary trips, particularly in areas with heavy fog.
  • Speed Limits and Safe Distance: Drivers are urged to avoid speeding and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead to prevent collisions.
