Transporters Call Nationwide Wheel-Jam Strike Over New Traffic Rules - Carr.pk

Goods transporters across Pakistan have announced a nationwide wheel jam strike to protest the newly introduced traffic rules and heavy fines.

The strike is planned to begin in Punjab on December eight and will expand across the country from December ten if authorities do not address their concerns. Transport unions say the updated rules have placed an unfair financial burden on drivers and small transport businesses.

Transporters claim that almost eighty percent of their operations have already been disrupted. They argue that sudden enforcement of strict penalties has made it difficult to continue working under current conditions. Many drivers fear that if the situation remains unchanged they will no longer be able to manage day to day expenses or keep their vehicles running.

Transport associations have prepared a list of twenty five demands. These include a review of traffic penalties dedicated truck stands across Punjab and better security on highways. Drivers have also raised concerns about robberies and unsafe routes that have become more common in recent months.

Transport is a backbone of the national economy. Any interruption affects businesses consumers and daily life across Pakistan. The protest highlights an important issue about policymaking. When major rules are introduced without consulting the people most affected the consequences can spread quickly through the economy.
