Two-year old dies in Seremban after being left in car

A two-year old male child was found dead in his mother’s car in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, yesterday. In the incident, the mother left her car in Jalan Tunku Hassan at 8 am for work in a nearby bank.

An emergency call was received by police at 6.15 pm, said Seremban district police chief ACP Azahar Abdul Rahim. Police investigations revealed the boy was found unconscious in the Proton Saga and later pronounced dead at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital, before being transferred to Rembau hospital for autopsy.

“The victim’s mother was said to have forgotten to send her child to the daycare and only realised what had happened around 5 pm when she finished work,” said ACP Azahar in a statement. The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, with the 35-year old mother arrested to facilitate investigations.

Cases of children being left behind in locked cars is not new, with many fatalities. Parents should be mindful of the safety of their children and try to end the day with the same number of children they started out with.
