Uber Debuts Luxurious Self-Driving Robotaxi at CES 2026 - Carr.pk

Uber, Lucid Motors, and Nuro just debuted their production-intent robotaxi at CES 2026, paving the way for autonomous rides in the San Francisco Bay Area later this year and globally afterwards.

The groundbreaking partnership brings together Lucid’s premium electric Gravity SUV platform, Nuro’s advanced Level 4 autonomous driving system, and Uber’s ride-hailing expertise.

This Uber robotaxi marks a major step in scaling driverless technology, competing with players like Waymo and Tesla worldwide.

What is Robotaxi?

In Pakistan today, millions rely on apps like inDrive, Yango, and Bykea for affordable, on-demand rides.

You open the app, book a car, bike or rickshaw, negotiate or see the fare, and a driver picks you up.

The Uber-Lucid-Nuro robotaxi aims to deliver exactly the same convenient ride-hailing service, but fully autonomous with no human driver.

Key Features of the Robotaxi

The vehicle boasts a roof-mounted sensor “halo” with cameras, lidar, and radar for full 360-degree perception.

Powered by Nvidia’s DRIVE AGX Thor platform, it operates without human intervention in defined conditions.

Inside, Uber designed an intuitive experience. An interactive screen lets riders control climate, entertainment, and even request pull-overs.

It seats up to six passengers comfortably, with real-time visualisations showing the vehicle’s path and surroundings.

Launch Timeline and Testing

On-road testing started in December with supervised prototypes. Production begins later this year at Lucid’s Arizona factory, pending validation. Uber plans to deploy over 20,000 units globally over six years.

As reactions pour in on X, excitement builds around this luxurious, sustainable option, reshaping urban mobility.

Current Reality in Pakistan

Right now, Uber has ceased direct operations in Pakistan since 2024. The market here right now is dominated by inDrive and Yango.

Autonomous robotaxis aren’t available here yet, and no major plans have been announced for Pakistan in 2026.

The Lucid-Nuro-Uber vehicle launches first in the US, specifically in the San Francisco area, later this year, with global expansion planned.

When or if it comes to cities like Karachi, Lahore, or Islamabad, it could transform daily commutes, just like how these ride apps have!
