Why Getting a License in Punjab Will Never Be the Same Again

In a major shift, driving licenses in Punjab will now be issued solely on merit, with no room for recommendations or influence.

Traffic authorities have announced the termination of the protocol culture that previously allowed favoritism in the licensing process. From now on, the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) will only issue motorcycle and car licenses after a proper driving test, ending the previous practice of issuing licenses without thorough checks.

The change comes after complaints of corruption and irregularities in the issuance of licenses, particularly regarding the lack of facilities for track tests and the abuse of authority by officers.

The traffic authorities have also withdrawn the powers of the Lahore Traffic Operations (LTO) and Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) licenses from certain departments. To ensure transparency, candidates must now upload videos proving they have passed all required tests.

DIG Traffic Punjab has promised to take strict action against officers and personnel involved in providing protocol services or engaging in corrupt activities. Any officer found guilty will face severe departmental penalties.
