Free Bus and Rickshaw Rides to Ensure a Safe Basant in Lahore 2026 - Carr.pk

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a series of safety and mobility measures to ensure a secure and orderly Basant celebration in Lahore early next year (2026).

The provincial government confirmed that free bus and rickshaw services will operate across the city on February 6, 7, and 8. This aims to keep roads safer and reduce reliance on privately owned motorcycles, which are a frequent factor in festival‑related accidents.

Maryam Nawaz directed transport authorities to mobilise fleets that will run without charge on the designated days, making it easier for citizens to move around without congestion or risk.

Officials say this service is part of a broader strategy to curb traffic disruptions and limit dangerous riding behaviours often seen during Basant festivities.

The decision reflects a push by the Punjab government to revive Lahore’s traditional spring festival under controlled conditions after years of strict kite‑flying bans due to safety concerns.

Authorities continue drafting rules to tightly regulate kite materials and flying zones, balancing cultural revival with public protection.
