Gilgit-Baltistan Road Blockages: Travelers and Logistics Face Severe Disruptions

The northern regions of Pakistan are currently grappling with a severe transport crisis as heavy snowfall and landslides have rendered several key arteries inaccessible. 

According to a Dawn News report, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) remains largely cut off from the rest of the country, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded and halting the supply of essential goods.

Major Routes Closed Due to Harsh Weather

The Karakoram Highway (KKH), the region’s lifeline, has been repeatedly closed at various points due to debris slides and heavy snow. Similarly, the Jaglot-Skardu Road and other inter-district routes are currently impassable for light and heavy vehicles. 

Local authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel until the clearing operations are completed.

Officials have stated that while some sections are being cleared for one-way traffic, full restoration may take several days, depending on weather stability.
