ICT Police Targets Heavy Vehicles on IJP Road After Fatal Accidents
Two back-to-back fatal accidents on February 5 have triggered strict enforcement measures by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on IJP Road.
In a recent video briefing on X, Chief Traffic Officer Captain (R) Hamzah Humayun confirmed that these incidents intensify the crackdown, in which one of the crashes claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl, who was reportedly crushed by a heavy vehicle after a lane violation.

Authorities say the incidents have led to an intensified monitoring campaign targeting commercial and passenger vehicles operating on the busy corridor. Total 155 heavy vehicles have been targeted during this crackdown.
Strict Monitoring of HTV, LTV and PSV Vehicles
Following the accidents, ITP has begun checking and monitoring:
- Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs)
- Light Transport Vehicles (LTVs)
- Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), including buses and coaches
Officials said additional personnel have been deployed to ensure compliance with lane discipline and speed regulations. Vehicles found violating rules are being issued challans, while repeat offenders may face license suspension, route bans, or vehicle seizure under traffic laws.
Revised Speed Limits on IJP Road
Chief Traffic Officer Captain (R) Hamzah Humayun urged drivers to strictly follow the notified speed limits on IJP Road:
- HTVs: Maximum 40 km/h
- LTVs: Maximum 50 km/h
The CTO stressed that heavy vehicles must remain in the leftmost lane and avoid overtaking from inner lanes. He warned that strict action will continue against drivers found speeding or straying from designated lanes.
Target: Curb Violations by Month-End
According to officials, the ongoing operation aims to significantly reduce traffic violations on IJP Road by the end of the month. The focus remains on improving road discipline and preventing further loss of life.
IJP Road, which connects Islamabad with Rawalpindi, carries high volumes of commercial and passenger traffic daily. Authorities believe sustained enforcement and monitoring will help improve safety conditions on the route.
