Islamabad M‑Tag Deadline Extended, But Time Is Limited
Islamabad’s administration has extended the M‑Tag installation deadline by 15 days, giving drivers a crucial timeline before the city’s strict “electronic entry enforcement” kicks in.
According to the report, the initial M‑Tag installation deadline of January 1 was pushed to 15 following heavy crowds at registration centres and calls from government officials to ease the process for motorists.
In response, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the extension during a visit to the newly inaugurated Shaheen Chowk underpass.
Nearly 100,000 vehicles had already been issued M‑Tags by late December, with 15 facilitation points set up across the capital to support motorists in completing installation.
From January 15 onwards, automated tag readers at major entry points will begin scanning for compliance, and vehicles without valid M‑Tags will be provided entry in Islamabad under the updated enforcement plan.
Authorities are urging vehicle owners not to wait until the last moment to get their M‑Tag installed to ensure there are no hurdles in their visit to Islamabad.
