Islamabad Makes Carbon Emission Tests Mandatory for Vehicles
The Islamabad administration has taken a major step to control environmental pollution and smog by making carbon emission tests mandatory for all vehicles.
For this purpose, only certified laboratories will be authorized to conduct the testing. The decision aims to control the smoke emitted from vehicles in the federal capital and improve air quality.
The decision was made on Tuesday during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa.
The meeting also directed brick kilns and industries to shift to modern, eco-friendly technology, while a complete ban was imposed on burning garbage. Strict legal action will be taken against violators.
Chairman Randhawa instructed all departments to formulate a comprehensive strategy to tackle smog and ensure full implementation of SOPs.
During the briefing, it was informed that several brick kilns have already been demolished for violating environmental laws, while efforts are underway to immediately shift the remaining ones to modern systems.
Environmental expert Rizwan Mehmood suggested prioritizing the plantation of tree species that are effective in absorbing pollution from the air.
