Islamabad Police Begin Stopping Vehicles Without M-Tags - Carr.pk

Authorities in the federal capital have launched a crackdown on vehicles without M-Tags following the registration deadline on Friday.

To enforce the ban, M-Tag readers have been activated at 12 key entry points across the city. These checkpoints are designed to prevent unregistered vehicles from entering Islamabad, a measure officials say is critical for improving traffic management and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Director General of Excise Bilal Azam has urged motorists to install M-Tags immediately to avoid fines and travel disruptions. “No exceptions will be made for vehicles without M-Tags,” authorities warned.

Where to Get an M-Tag

To facilitate the public, the administration has established 16 service centers across the city.

  • 24/7 Centers: Counters at the 26 Number Chungi and 17 Meel toll plazas are operating round-the-clock.
  • Extended Hours: Facilitation centers at Kachnar Park (Sector I-8) and F-9 Park will remain open until midnight

How to Apply

Officials have simplified the registration process, requiring no additional forms or paperwork. Applicants only need to present two original documents:

  • Vehicle Registration Card (or Book)
  • Owner’s CNIC

If both documents are valid, the M-Tag is issued on the spot. Officials noted that widespread adoption of the system will modernize toll collection and significantly reduce congestion at entry points.

The enforcement drive is being executed in coordination with the DG Safe City, the Chief Traffic Officer, and the SSP Operations, who have inspected checkpoints to ensure readiness.
