Islamabad Targets Vehicles Without Emission Clearance Certificate in Major Drive
The Islamabad Transport Authority has launched a strict crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles to improve the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI). Officials say rising air pollution in the federal capital has forced authorities to take serious action on major city roads.
Checkpoints have been set up across key routes, where teams inspect vehicles for emissions and road safety. In the last 24 hours, 63 vehicles were checked. Of these, 23 were fined, and 9 were impounded and sent to local police stations for further action.
Officials have made it mandatory for all drivers to hold a Vehicular Emission Clearance Certificate. Vehicles without this certificate will not be allowed on city roads. The certificate is part of efforts to strictly monitor emission standards and reduce harmful pollution.
Chairman Irfan Memon said, “Smoke-emitting vehicles cannot be allowed on city roads under any circumstances. They harm the environment and public health.” He directed staff to submit daily reports to ensure the crackdown continues without interruption.
