Karachi Bans Heavy Vehicles Karachi 16 Hours/Day to Tackle Traffic Chaos! - Carr.pk

Karachi has imposed a two‑month ban on the daytime movement of dumpers and other heavy vehicles on city roads, aiming to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents.

According to DAWN, the restriction is effective from December 23 to February 22, 2026.

It prohibits heavy vehicles from entering or traveling within city limits. The only time they are allowed to travel is between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The ban targets vehicles carrying construction materials and other large loads, which have contributed to increasing traffic and accident rates during peak hours.

However, exemptions have been made for vehicles transporting essential goods like water, edible oil, and medical supplies. Authorities are encouraging these vehicles to move during off‑peak times.

To ensure the continued flow of essential supplies, the city has designated routes for heavy vehicles, including the Super Highway, the National Highway, and the Northern Bypass, which lead to industrial and port areas.

Dumpers with approved tracking devices are allowed to operate within industrial zones, where Karachi Traffic Police monitor them. Violations of the ban will result in penalties for both drivers and operators.

This decision comes in response to a rise in fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles, with recent incidents fueling public concern. It follows earlier measures this year aimed at addressing Karachi’s ongoing traffic challenges and making roads safer for all commuters.
