Karachi Bans Rickshaws on 26 Roads to Ease Traffic Jams - Carr.pk

Karachi authorities have extended the ban on two-seater and four-seater rickshaws, now covering 26 major roads, as traffic congestion continues to worsen in the city.

The latest restrictions, announced by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi on Thursday, follow recommendations from DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah and are enforced under Section 144 of the CrPC.

The ban, originally applied to 20 main roads in October 2025, now includes Shahrah-e-Faisal, II Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Shershah Suri Road, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, and several other critical arteries. Officials said the expanded Karachi rickshaw ban aims to improve traffic flow and reduce gridlocks in key city areas.

In addition to rickshaws, daytime restrictions on heavy vehicles and a 30 km/h speed limit for HTVs have been imposed to ease congestion. Authorities hope these measures will provide real relief to commuters struggling with daily traffic jams.
