Lahore Gears Up for Safe Basant 2026 with Free Bike Safety Rods
Lahore is preparing for Basant 2026 with a strong focus on public safety, especially for motorcyclists. Ahead of the festival, which will be celebrated from February 6 to 8, the Punjab government has introduced safety rods on motorcycles to protect riders from injuries caused by kite strings.
The Govt. initiative shared on social media, including Instagram, where posts show motorcyclists installing metal rods on their bikes. These rods are designed to deflect sharp kite strings and reduce the risk of accidents during the festival.

According to reports, the government has spent over Rs110 million on this safety drive. Almost 10,00,000 free rods are being distributed citywide, with neighborhoods categorized into Red, Yellow, and Green zones to manage risk during Basant. Authorities have also reinforced that only cotton kite strings are allowed, while metallic or glass-coated strings remain banned.
The campaign offers free rod installations for one million motorcycles, alongside fines for non-compliance and rewards for reporting illegal kite flying. In addition, police patrols, CCTV surveillance, drones, and traffic management plans have been deployed to ensure a safe festival for all residents.
This year, Basant celebrations are taking a new turn, combining traditional kite flying with modern safety measures. For Lahore’s motorcyclists, the government’s proactive approach means they can enjoy the festival without the dangers that have historically accompanied kite flying.
This safety-first approach ensures that Basant 2026 is remembered for joy and celebration, not accidents.
