Car sales in Pakistan surged 35.5% in January 2026, reaching 23,055 units compared to 17,010 units in the same month last year, according to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA).

On a month-on-month basis, sales jumped 73.6% from 13,280 units in December 2025, highlighting a strong start to the year for the auto sector.

Passenger cars drove the growth, with 18,602 units sold, marking a 56.5% increase year-on-year and a 74.3% rise from December 2025. In contrast, LCVs, vans, and jeeps saw a 13.1% decline compared to January 2025, though sales still rose 70.7% compared to last month.

Car production mirrored the sales trend, climbing 42% year-on-year to 22,093 units in January 2026. Passenger car production grew 63.4%, while production of LCVs, vans, and jeeps dropped 8.5% compared to the same period last year.

Cumulatively, in the first seven months of FY26, total car sales reached 111,368 units, a 43.4% increase over 77,645 units sold in the same period last year. Passenger car sales recorded 84,512 units, up 44.9%, while LCVs, vans, and jeeps totaled 26,856 units, a 39.1% rise compared to the previous year.

Experts say the growth reflects improving consumer confidence, stable financing options, and rising demand for personal vehicles, despite higher auto prices and economic challenges.
