Punjab Govt Announces Routes for New Local Bus Service
The Punjab government will soon launch a new local bus service to improve public transport within Rawalpindi and Islamabad. This move follows the recent decision to shift major bus terminals to the Rawalpindi Ring Road.
The bus service will operate from the Pirwadhai General Bus Stand. It will cover multiple areas across both cities, offering a convenient travel option for daily commuters. Fares will range between Rs20 and Rs50, ensuring affordability for most passengers.
Importantly, this service will let commuters reach different parts of the twin cities using a single route. Consequently, it will reduce reliance on private vehicles and heavy transport, which the government plans to restrict from city centers.
Along with this, the government will establish feeder routes. These routes will connect the relocated terminals at Faizabad, Chungi No. 26, and other key points directly to the city.

Officials believe this new bus network will complement the shifted terminals and the Rawalpindi Ring Road. This approach will help divert heavy traffic from the city, easing congestion and cutting down pollution. Additionally, travel times for commuters will improve.
Overall, this initiative reflects the government’s goal to modernize transport infrastructure. It aims to provide sustainable and commuter-friendly options in the twin cities.
