Quetta Gets Its First Pink Bus Service for Safe Women Commuting - Carr.pk

In a significant move to improve public transportation for women in Balochistan, the provincial government has officially launched the “Pink Bus” service in Quetta. This initiative, inaugurated at the start of 2026, aims to provide a safe, dignified, and hassle-free commuting experience for women and female students across the city.

Safe Commuting for Women and Students

The service was formally announced by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who highlighted that the project is a cornerstone of the government’s social reform agenda. By introducing dedicated transport for women, the government aims to facilitate easier access to educational institutions, workplaces, and healthcare facilities.

According to a Dawn News report, the initial phase of the service features several buses operating on key routes, including University Road. The Chief Minister emphasized that providing a secure environment for women is a fundamental priority for the Government of Balochistan.

Strategic Expansion Across Balochistan

While the service initially launched in Quetta, the provincial government plans a phased rollout. Following the successful implementation in the provincial capital, the Pink Bus service is expected to expand to other central districts in Balochistan. This expansion is designed to bridge the transportation gap for women in remote areas, promoting social inclusion and financial independence.

This move follows similar successful models in other provinces, such as the Pink Bus service in Sindh, which has already gained significant traction among daily commuters.

Commitment to Permanent Reform

Chief Minister Bugti reassured the public that the government is committed to permanently ensuring the continuity of the service. Unlike previous pilot projects, the 2026 Pink Bus initiative is backed by a long-term sustainability plan to ensure the vehicles remain operational and well-maintained.

The launch of the Pink Bus service is being hailed as a practical step toward women’s empowerment, addressing one of the most significant barriers to female workforce participation: safe and reliable transport.
