Punjab Launches Online Biometric for Vehicle Transfers
Punjab’s Excise and Taxation Department has taken a decisive step toward digitising the vehicle ownership transfer process.
The new process now allows sellers to perform the biometric transfer of their Punjab-registered vehicles online through the “Pak-ID” mobile application, according to an official press release issued by the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department.
From Agent Visits to Digital Scans
Previously, biometric verification for vehicle transfers required sellers to visit an authorised NADRA e-Sahulat agent in person, pay Rs 150 to Rs 250, provide fingerprint verification, and obtain a printed slip as proof for the buyer.
The process was time-consuming and added extra costs.
Under the new system, sellers can now complete biometric verification directly through their smartphones using the Pak-ID mobile app.
How does the New Biometric Transfer of Vehicle Work?
The process works similarly to biometric authentication in banking applications, where users verify their identity by scanning their fingerprints with the phone’s camera. The app then recognizes the user’s fingerprint and cross-checks it with the database, and that’s how this new system works as well.
Here’s a short guide:
- Download the Pak-ID mobile app from the Google Play Store or App Store:

- Sign up on the app using your CNIC, phone, and email id:

- Scroll down to the bottom of the home page. There you’ll find “Vehicle Transfer” under the “Government Services”:

- Submit the application details to perform the biometric transfer of your vehicle.:
According to the department, ownership transfers will be processed within 48 hours after successful verification and payment.
